Globe Valves
Globe Valves for Industrial Applications
A globe valve, named for its spherical body, is an indispensable component in fluid control systems like boilers. United Brass Works often recommends globe valves for positive shut-off in pipelines. They are the ideal solution for many industrial applications.
They are also used for on/off service and are effective for systems that have frequent cycling and where fluid control has to be adjusted frequently.
Here’s how a globe valve works
To put it simply, a globe valve is designed to stop or start flow and regulate it. It works by the upward and downward movement of the valve stem. When the handwheel is turned, the stem moves the disc or plug either toward or away from the seat. Adjusting the distance between the disk and the seat controls how much fluid is allowed to flow through.
Globe valves are unidirectional and are designed to be installed with the flow in one direction. CV is calculated for globe valves by measuring the flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM) that passes through the valve with a pressure drop of one pound per square inch (PSI) when the valve is fully open. CV is calculated for globe valves by measuring how many gallons flow through per minute with a pressure drop of one pound per square inch when the valve is fully open.
A valve with versatile capabilities
The disk and seat’s shape, size, or material can alter a globe valve’s capabilities. We offer an extensive selection of sizes and shapes, listed below.
Our extensive experience has taught us that brass and bronze are the best materials for making the body, stem, and bonnet of a globe valve, which is why we use them. The disc, however, works best when made of PTFE.
All our globe valves manufactured by United Brass Works are manually operated.
It’s a shutoff valve, but not the only shutoff valve
A globe valve is an excellent example of a shutoff valve, but not all shutoff valves are globe valves. Several models of valves, including ball, gate, plug, and butterfly valves, can also be classified as shutoff valves.
Consider the trim
At United Brass Works, we pay special attention to the trim. The trim of a globe valve includes the internal parts that come into contact with the fluid, such as the seat, disc, stem, and sleeve. We select the trim material based on the fluid’s characteristics, ensuring proper function and durability.
Advantages of a Globe Valve
- Simple structure makes it fairly easy to manufacture and maintain
- Opening and closing time is short
- Usually has a long life because there is very little friction between the sealing surfaces and the plug
